Watch: Jennifer Garner Shows How She Became 'Marvel Fit' For Deadpool & Wolverine

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool & Wolverine took everyone by storm, not just with its R-rated thrilling sequences but also the epic cameos. From Henry Cavill as Wolverine to Jennifer Garner as Elektra, the film made the viewing experience memorable for all Marvel fans. Days after the film’s theatrical release, Garner has opened up about her character, the one that she reprised after nearly two decades. In her latest Instagram post, the actress also gave a glimpse of the intense workout that she went through to be superhero-ready.

In a long note, Garner recalled being on the sets of The Adam Project with director Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds when the idea for Elektra’s return was coined. “We were on the set of The Adam Project, and they gave each other this look they have that can communicate an idea—20 pages of dialogue, nuclear codes— there is a crazy artistic kismet between those two,” she wrote.

Speaking about her intense preparation, she added, “Other than trying to convince my kids’ preschool buddies that I was secretly a ninja, I hadn’t picked up Elektra’s sais since 2004; I was fit, but not @marvel fit. As this impossible dream became reality, my bestie and OG stunt double @shaunaduggins and I amped up our training, led by @bethjnicely at @thelimitfit: 1x/day, plus whatever homework she assigned for a second workout. Boxing 3x/ week with @flvcothefuture from @matchroomxchurchillgym. And lots and lots of @onepeloton’s @becsgentry. We had #SuperHeroSummer over here, twirling sais in the backyard and laughing at our sore old bodies.”

Garner also gave a special shoutout to her co-stars Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Channing Tatum, Wesley Snipes and Dafne Keen, and added, “Shooting the fight was so fun, being there all together—truly like a dream. I’m proud of my friends and grateful to be up there with them. Thank you doesn’t cut it, guys, but it’s a good placeholder until I figure out what does.”

Ryan Reynolds also penned a special note for his Deadpool 3 co-star, calling her an “unblinking hurricane of vengeance.”

Along with the video, she gave a deep look into everything that went inside to make her Elektra after so many years. In the video, Garner could be seen lifting weights, boxing, swimming, running, trampoline work, aerobics, balancing exercises and much more.

The actress originally played Elektra for the first time in Ben Affleck’s 2003 film Daredevil. She also headlined her own Elektra spinoff in 2005.
