It was truly an emotional moment for the 'Masaan' team at Cannes and a poignant one for Indian cinema as the auditorium erupted into thunderous applause post the screening of Neeraj Ghaywan's film. The film was selected in the UnCertain Regard category and the film's director, Ghaywan was present along with the lead cast comprising of Richa Chadha, Vicky Kaushal and Shweta Tripathi.
The audience gave a five minute long standing ovation post the film's screening and an overwhelmed Ghaywan teared up and thanked everyone with folded hands. Leading lady Richa Chadha was also seen wiping tears of her eyes.
The film has been written by Varun Grover and Ghaywan and produced by Phantom Films. The trailer of the film was recently released on Youtube. The film also features Sanjai Maishra in a key role. Shot entirely in Varanasi, the makers haven't yet decided on a release date in India.
