Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who served as the PM in 1996 and then from 1998 to 2004, passed away in New Delhi on Thursday. Vajpayee, who was suffering from a prolonged illness for over a decade, was 93. The iconic politician and a great orator, Vajpayee, was also a prolific poet, known for writing several poignant poems, one of which was adapted into a ghazal music video by Yash Chopra.

The 6:29 minute video, featuring a brooding Shah Rukh Khan, has stills of the late politician thinking and writing. It also has a reflective introduction written by Javed Akhtar, which is rendered beautifully in the rich baritone voice of Amitabh Bachchan. To add to its allure, the poem has been sung soulfully by late ghazal singer Jagjit Singh.

The Bharatiya Janata Party stalwart was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on June 11 with a kidney tract infection, urinary tract infection, low urine output and chest congestion. Last night, Vajpayee's condition had worsened and he was put on life-support system. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah, party veteran LK Advani, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, several Union Ministers and CMs paid a visit to Vajpayee this morning.
