Ranbir was an assistant director in the film.

“I was an assistant by default because I board exams just got over. You usually go on a holiday after that so dad was shooting in America so he said, ‘Why don’t you come along? You can assist me.’ That’s the time I started bonding with dad also, we never really had that friendly relationship,” he said.

I think at that point, we began bonding because we stayed together, every night after pack up, he used to take me to these fancy restaurants, he’s really fond of food and he’s very particular that I eat food from every different cuisine,” Ranbir added.

In a recent interview, Ranbir got candid about witnessing his parents’ fighting while he was growing up. Speaking with with Nikhil Kamath on his YouTube show, ‘People by WTF,’ Ranbir said, “Anybody who speaks in a louder tone, it disturbs me, since childhood. My parents went through a lot of fights. We lived in a bungalow, so I have spent most of my childhood on the staircases, hearing them fight. I was always scared and on the edge.” He continued, “I think they were both going through a rough patch. My sister wasn’t around, so I kind of felt responsible. My mother used to talk about her feelings to me. But, my father wasn’t that expressive. I never understood or heard his point of view.”

It was widely reported that Ranbir and Rishi grew closer after the veteran actor’s cancer diagnosis. Ranbir dedicated time to be with Rishi during his treatment in New York. However, the actor admitted that after his father passed away, in April 2020, he was unable to cry. He admitted he had a panic attack when the doctors told him that Rishi might not make it but he couldn’t cry.
