Steven Spielberg is undoubtedly one of the most prolific directors in the world. Recently actor Ryan Gosling shared a moment when he was left awestruck by his meeting with the Oscar-winning director. Gosling, who is preparing for the release of his new film The Fall Guy told Variety that he met Spielberg at the 2024 Golden Globes awards ceremony. The Barbie star said that he noticed Spielberg walking towards him but thought he must be going to meet someone else since the two had never spoken before. Gosling was left awestruck when Spielberg actually stopped in front of him to compliment his yet-to-be-released film The Fall Guy.
Recalling his interaction with Steven Spielberg, Gosling said, “I saw Steven Spielberg walking in my direction. I thought there’s no way he’s coming to talk to me. And yet he kept getting closer, and then I thought I know what’s going to happen. I’m going to point to him, and he’s going to go, ‘Not you, behind you,’ so I’m not going to do that. Finally, I said, ‘Me?’ and he goes, “Yeah you.’ I go, ‘I’m sorry I didn’t think you were coming to talk to me.’ And I stood up and he gave me a hug and said, ‘I just saw “Fall Guy” and I loved it.’”
Ryan Gosling added that now that he has received the stamp of approval from none other than Steven Spielberg, he is not too worried about the film’s critical reception. Gosling continued, “Steven Spielberg liked it. That was an all time moment for me. I’m really excited for people to see it. I think it’s a really special movie.”
The Fall Guy is directed by acclaimed filmmaker David Leitch of Deadpool 2 and Bullet Train fame. It is based on the 1980s sitcom of the same name. In the film, Gosling plays a Hollywood stuntman who is tasked with finding the lead action of a film after the actor goes missing.
The action comedy film is set to have a world premiere at SXSW on March 12, 2024. After that it will be theatrically released in the USA on May 3. The film also stars Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Winston Duke, Hannah Waddingham, and Stephanie Hsu. While talking about the film, Gosling described The Fall Guy as “a love letter to movies and moviemaking and the people who make movies.”
