The biggest names in the film industry have to face numerous ups and downs throughout their career. A name like Sanjay Dutt, who has had a remarkable career, is no exception. In the past decade, the Munna Bhai actor featured in this multi-starrer, high-budgeted release, which ended up becoming a box-office failure.
The release in question is the 2019 film, Kalank, which starred some of the leading names from Bollywood. Dubbed as a period-romantic film, Kalank was made under the direction of Abhishek Varman, also credited as its screenplay writer. It starred an ensemble cast of Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha.
With such an incredible line-up of actors, the expectations with the release were naturally very high. However, shockingly the film proved to be a box-office failure, an entirely unexpected outcome, which was not anticipated by the producers. The reports state that the actors gave commendable performances, but failed to impress the audience.
The film was backed by Bollywood’s leading production banners, which included Dharma Productions and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, while it was distributed by Fox Star Studios. The producers involved in the film are Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta.
As per reports, the film was made under a budget of Rs 130 crore and was able to collect Rs 146 crore upon release, emerging as a box-office failure. However, it became a Filmfare Award favourite, where it received nine nominations. The music in the film was composed by Pritam while the cinematography was handled by Binod Pradhan and the editor is Namrata Rao.
Sanjay Dutt is set to appear in the film, Gudhchadi, which is going to premiere on JioCinema on August 9. Directed by Binoy Gandhi, the film stars Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Parth Samthaan and Khushalii Kumar as the protagonists. It is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Nidhi Dutta and Binoy Gandhi under the banners of T-Series Films and Keep Dreaming Pictures.
