When This Star Rejected Director T Rajendar’s Debut Film Uyirullavarai Usha
When T Rajendar decided to direct his first film, he wanted to cast his wife Usha as the female lead.

T Rajendar, also known as Vijaya T Rajendar or TR, is an actor, filmmaker, musician, cinematographer and distributor, primarily active in the Tamil film industry. When he decided to direct his first film, he wanted to cast his wife Usha as the female lead and Rajinikanth as the main lead. He narrated the story to Rajinikanth. For some reason, Rajinikanth decided not to act in the film. So, Rajendra decided to play the main lead himself in his first film titled Uyirullavarai Usha, which was released in 1983. Rajender started a production house called Tanjore Cine Arts. He produced and released Uyirullavarai Usha under this. It is also notable that actress Nalini made her debut in Tamil cinema with this film.

In 1982, Rajendar got married to former actress Usha Rajendar. They have two sons, Silambarasan and Kuralarasan, and a daughter, Ilakiya. His wife has served as a producer on some of his films, including Kadhal Azhivathillai (2002).

T Rajendar is known for his ability to speak spontaneously in rhyming sentences. He started his career in the Tamil film industry with successful films in which he appeared as an actor, playback singer, dancer and screenwriter. He gained popularity through his unique style of acting. He usually works as a director, actor, songwriter, art director, production manager and playback singer, among other roles. In the 1980s, all his films were blockbusters that ran for years and the songs were also well received. He is known for introducing new faces in his films and many of the actresses who debuted in his films went on to become successful in South cinema, including Amala, Nalini, Jyothi, Jeevitha and Mumtaj.

After a few years, T Rajendar’s films started losing popularity because his films became too predictable and tended to follow the same plot. They all had the same style of speech with repetitive dialogues with little or no meaning.
