Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha fell in love on the sets of Fukrey almost a decade ago, and the two are still going strong. Recently, the 3 Idiots star opened up about his initial attempts to impress Richa on Cyrus Broacha’s podcast, Cyrus Says. He humorously confessed to doing silly things in a bid to win her attention. He was also inspired by her exceptional talent in films like Oye Lucky Lucky Oye and Gangs of Wasseypur. Fondly recalling their first interactions during the Fukrey reading, Ali shared anecdotes about how he tried to initiate conversations and join her company.
Ali said, “I think I was trying to impress her. I thought she was really cool this badass chick and I’d never seen a girl act like that. I don’t think I’d seen someone with that range for a long long time in Indian Cinema when I saw her do Oye Lucky and Wasseypur. In Wasseypur, she has this entire range.”
Talking about his first move, Ali Fazal recalled, “I remember we were at the reading for Fukrey and I don’t know why I just went and sat next to her. It’s just stupid things you do. I wanted to be part of the conversation, and I’m like, ‘Oh, you want this dish?’ And the same dish is right here. It was unnecessary chivalry. She must have thought I’m stupid. I hated Rajma and these guys would always eat Rajma. Then we started talking a lot.”
Talking about the moment Richa Chadha fell for him, Ali shared that it happened during the music launch of Fukrey when he was doing a ‘stupid dance.’ He believed that this act caught Richa’s attention and became a pivotal moment in their relationship, while he was already fascinated by the Masaan actress even before that particular incident happened.
Before their wedding in 2022, Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha shared a voice note on their social media handles, thanking fans for the support, love and acceptance they received.
