Here's Why Timothee Chalamet Wants Austin Butler To Play Cameo In Bob Dylan's Biopic
Timothee Chalamet suggested that Butler could reprise his role as Elvis Presley from the 2022 film Elvis, adding a fun twist to the movie by creating a musical cinematic universe.

Dune 2 star Timothee Chalamet has expressed interest in having Austin Butler make a cameo appearance in his upcoming Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown. Chalamet, who is set to portray Dylan in the film, recently discussed the idea in an interview with NME. He suggested that Butler could reprise his role as Elvis Presley from the 2022 film Elvis, adding a fun twist to the movie by creating a musical cinematic universe. “I wish you were in it!” Chalamet told Butler, reports Comicbook. “There’s an Elvis character in the Johnny Cash biopic (Walk The Line). It’s really brief, it’s very brief, but I was kind of wishing we could create a musical cinematic universe,” he added.

Directed by James Mangold, A Complete Unknown will focus on a specific moment in Dylan’s life when he arrived in New York in the early 1960s. The film will also star Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, and Elle Fanning as Slyie Russo, replacing Benedict Cumberbatch.

“It’s not really a Bob Dylan biopic,” Mangold said during an interview last year. “The reason Bob has been so supportive of us making it, is it’s about, as in all cases I think, the best true-life movies are never cradle to grave but they’re about a very specific moment,” he said as per Comicbook.

Meanwhile, Baz Luhrmann, the director of Elvis, has hinted at the possibility of releasing an extended cut of the film in the future. He has suggested that the four-hour version of Elvis could be turned into a television series, similar to how he reworked his 2008 film Australia into the recent Hulu series Faraway Downs.

Luhrmann explained to Comicbook that another four or six months would be required to work on an extended cut of the film. “The idea is not being opposed by me, but it’s not something that can be done now. A bit of fatigue is being felt by me,” he said.

Coming back to Chalamet’s idea for Butler to cameo in A Complete Unknown, it surely adds an interesting potential crossover element to the film, blending the worlds of Dylan and Presley in a unique way. Whether this cameo will come to fruition remains to be seen, but it certainly has fans intrigued about the possibilities for both A Complete Unknown and Elvis.
