Janhvi Kapoor recently opened up about navigating today’s paparazzi culture as a star kid. The actress shared how she has grown up with canmeras since childhood and people with or without consent alwats took photos of her as well as her sister Khushi Kapoor. The Good Luck Jerry actress revealed that things became worse when she found her morphed photos on ‘inappropriate, almost pornographic pages’.
In an interview with Newslaundry, the actress shared that there are has been an ‘influx of fake images, more so with today’s advanced AI (artificial intelligence)’. She added, “People see these manipulated images and assume they’re real. That deeply concerns me.”
Janhvi also recollected the time she felt ‘alienated’ as school kid. Recalling an incident when she was in Class 4, Janhvi shared she felt ‘very uncomfortable’ when she found paparazzi images of herself flashing on Yahoo’s homepage. The headlines announced she was ‘being launched’ in film industry. Janhvi added that the teachers also treated her differently and didn’t like her.
Janhvi said, “I don’t think they understood it so they started disliking me. I didn’t understand what was happening. My friends looked at me differently, they poked fun at me for not getting waxed… Many insinuated that I don’t have to work as I was famous anyway, weird taunts that I wouldn’t understand. Everyone kept asking me when I was leaving school and why I was on Yahoo. There was a lot of judgement, a lot of questioning of one’s self-worth from a very young age.”
It was in 2018, Janhvi made her acting debut with Shashak Khaitan and Karan Johar’s Dhadak. The movie also starred Ishaan Khatter. She went to star in several women centric films including Mili and Gunjan Saxena. The actress was last seen in Bawaal with Varun Dhawan. She will next be seen in Mr and Mrs Mahi with Rajkummar Rao.
