Karan Johar has had an illustrious career in Bollywood, spanning over 25 years now. Although the filmmaker started making movies 25 years ago, he has been a part of the entertainment world since he was born. His father, Yash Johar, was a renowned director. As such, Karan grew up with star kids who are celebrities today. He has several interesting childhood stories to share about them and recently, he spoke about how Jaya Bachchan once slapped Shweta Bachchan.
Speaking to Rajeev Masand and Anupama Chopra on their podcast, Karan said, “We had very normal mothers who made sure that we… I remember there was a cardinal rule that none of us were allowed to read film magazines. So, I was the only one who would try to sneak in CineBlitz and Star Dust, till one day Jaya Aunty actually slapped Shweta because she was reading Star Dust along with me.”

“I was trying to tell Shweta what Nita’s Natter was, which was the gossip column in the first four pages. It was what today we’d call as blind items, it was called the Cat’s Crown. It was called the Blind Cat, yeah,” the filmmaker added.
The video went viral on social media and several netizens came forward to defend Jaya. One person wrote, “I mean the second part is correct? She will obviously try to protect her daughter?” Another wrote, “I love it. I wasn’t allowed magazines either. Unless it was nat geo or whatever.” One person wrote, “Why wouldn’t a mother protect her children from such things? I see nothing wrong here.” However, someone wrote, “Imagine getting slapped for reading a magazine that too a filmy one.”
Karan still shares a close friendship with Shweta Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan.
