Prime Video has dropped the trailer of the much-anticipated series Mr and Mrs Smith, starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine in the lead. The thriller comedy is a reboot of the 2005 Doug Liman directorial of the same title that featured Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Glover and Erskine will be slipping into the shoes of Pitt and Jolie for the upcoming series. Mr and Mrs Smith, the series, will revolve around the story of two spies who come together under the instruction of their agencies to work on a secret mission, pretending to be a married couple. The first episode will premiere on the OTT platform on February 2.
As per the trailer’s description, Mr and Mrs Smith center around two lonely strangers working for a mysterious spy organisation. The company offers a lucrative life to the employees, bestowed with enough wealth, travel opportunities, and a majestic “brownstone in Manhattan." However, to enjoy these luxuries the two spies adopt new identities by agreeing to a fake arranged marriage setup as Mr and Mrs John and Jane Smith. The duo embark on risky missions every week during which their equations turn more complicated when the duo catch feelings for one another.

The trailer opens with John Smith (Donald Glover) and Jane Smith (Maya Erskine) introducing themselves to each other on an elevator. Romantic and professional tensions escalate as they encounter death-defying situations with bullets flying, chaotic explosions, and umpteen action sequences that leave the protagonists in a do-or-die situation. When asked about their professions in the trailer the two lie that they are software engineers with the scene soon shifting to Jane firing bullets at a car, indicating the secrecy surrounding their work.
Some time into the trailer, a woman asks the spy duo, “You think, if the company hadn’t matched you, you would be compatible?" While Jane promptly says no, John differs in his opinion saying “Maybe". Donald Glover and Maya Erskine’s chemistry forms one of the major highlights of Mr and Mrs Smith. There are hilarious moments as well as intense ones, that promise to keep the audience hooked. Their intertwined destinies come with professional dangers and personal feelings, making the viewers of Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie’s film all the more excited for the upcoming series.
Mr and Mrs Smith will have eight episodes in total.
