Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani has received another death threat from the same email account. This time the caller demanded Rs 200 crore, saying that the amount had been increased due to “non-response to the previous email.”
The second mail reads, “U have not responded to our email now the amount is 200 crore otherwise the death warrant is signed”.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Ambani received an email threatening to shoot him dead if he failed to pay Rs 20 crore. A Mumbai police official said on Saturday that the industrialist received the email on Friday and based on a complaint lodged by his security in-charge, an FIR was registered against an unidentified person at the Gamdevi police station.
According to the FIR, the copy of which is accessed by News18, the miscreant claimed in the mail, “If you (Ambani) don’t give us Rs 20 crore, we will kill you. We have the best shooters in India.”
The case was filed under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 387 (putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt in order to commit extortion) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation), police said, adding that a massive manhunt has been launched to nab the person who sent the mail. No arrests have been made in the case so far.
As per sources privy to the development, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have expressed concern over the matter and reviewed Ambani’s security arrangement with top cops.
Last year, the Mumbai Police had arrested a man from Bihar’s Darbhanga for making death threat calls to Ambani and his family members. The accused had also threatened to blow up the Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai.
