After India’s dominant win over Sri Lanka, Shreyas Iyer who starred with the bat scoring 82 runs off just 56 deliveries was not happy with some questions by journalists in the post-match press conference regarding his supposed weakness to the shorter delivery.

A journalist had asked the question to Iyer, “I wanted to ask, short ball has been a problem for you since the beginning of this World Cup and today we saw some great pull shots. How much are you prepared for the next match against South Africa because we know how good they are with the short balls.”
Iyer seemed to be miffed by the question and hit back asking to clarify what the journalist meant by saying, ‘its a problem?’
The journalist then clarified by saying that it has been a delivery that has troubled him.
The batter then hit back at the journalist by asking him if he had seen how many pull-shots he had played which went for a boundary.
Iyer who hails from Mumbai maintained his stance that he does not have any issues with the shorter delivery by saying that the pitch in Wankhede has even bounce and has more bounce than other pitches which has enabled him to tackle this issue.
He had also added, “When I go to hit some shots, you are bound to get out and sometimes it may work, sometimes it may not. And the majority of the time it hasn’t worked for me, maybe that’s the reason you think it’s a problem for me. But in my mind, I know there’s no problem.”
Shreyas Iyer has not been in good touch having scored just one half-century against Pakistan before the game against Sri Lanka. But now the batter seems to have found his form as India looks to go up against South Africa at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata in their eighth game of the tournament. The Men in Blue have been unbeaten in the World Cup so far and will look to maintain their streak.
