The internet is brimming with quirks and amusing content, much like the bustling trains in Delhi and Mumbai! These public commutes serve as an endless wellspring of laughter, not only for the passengers onboard but also for the online audience. Recently, a viral incident on social media exemplified this, a man found himself in a situation that’s relatable to many, as he delivered a comical response to being called ‘Uncle,’ a phrase that practically every Desi individual has either said or heard at least once in their life. As a result, this lighthearted exchange became an internet sensation.
In the now-viral video, a man occupied a spot at the entrance of a Mumbai local train. Someone off-camera kindly asked him to stand up and allow others to get down at the next station. However, the man remained seated, prompting the passenger to playfully chime in, “Chalo uncle Borivali aa gaya khade hoke baith jana wapas (Okay uncle, Borivali station has come, You should stand up and then sit).” To his surprise, there was no immediate response from the man. Undeterred, he repeated his request, “Hello uncle, khade hoke baith jao wapas (Hello, uncle, please stand up and sit again).”

At this point, the man offered a witty retort, “Kisko bula raha hai wahi nahi smajh aa raha (Who are you calling? I don’t understand).” The passenger persisted, “Uncle baitha kaun hai (Who’s the uncle sitting there?)” This is when the man delivered his cheeky response, “Uncle kaun hai (Who’s the uncle here?)” The humour in his words resonated with everyone, both on the train and online, as they appreciated the clever way he countered the ‘uncle’ label.

One user praised, “Best reply from UNCLE.” “His answer was apt. Without being rude he made it clear. Asides i still feel we need to address each others not by uncle /aunty just coz of grey or no hair. They may be young at heart,” commented another. A third user exclaimed, “New Meme content.”
