The eighth season of Koffee with Karan began with a bang with Bollywood ‘it’ couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. However, Deepika faced online backlash for discussing their open relationship at the start of their romance. Comedian and actor Vir Das indirectly supported Deepika in a tweet responding to the trolling.
Vir Das wrote on X, “Moment of silence for all the men who are upset that a Bollywood star way out of their league was casually dating for a while, and wasn’t as committed as their imaginary girlfriend is to them.” On the show, the couple revealed they weren’t exclusive until Ranveer proposed. They were ‘technically allowed’ to see other people, sparking different reactions online.

Deepika said, “I wanted to be single for a while because I had come from difficult relationships. I was going through a phase where I said ‘I just don’t want to be attached, don’t want to be committed’. And I had fun. And then he comes along, so I didn’t ‘commit commit’, until he proposed to me. There was no ‘commitment as such. Even if we were technically allowed to see other people, we would just keep coming back to each other.”
Ranveer and Deepika, married since 2018, shared their unseen wedding video on Karan Johar’s show. They’ve been together for nearly 11 years. During the first episode of Koffee With Karan 8, Deepika and Ranveer gave a glimpse of their beautiful wedding video, making Karan rather emotional. “I am not in a relationship and I am kind of single. It just makes me feel like what I am losing out on not being in one. You don’t have a partner of your own to share the nothings of your day with. And every day, I wake up and a little part of me feels that vaccum,” he admitted.
