With India celebrating Diwali, the festival of lights, their batters were busy lighting up the M Chinnaswamy Stadium with a flurry of boundaries in an ICC Cricket World Cup contest against the Netherlands.
The pitch was expected to be a belter and so it was. Two India batters scored centuries while as many as three hit half-centuries as they racked up 410/4 in 50 overs in search of a record ninth win on the bounce at a world cup.

Most Individual Fifty-plus Scores in ODIs for India
This is the first time that five Indian batters have scored 50-plus scores in the same ODI innings. Shreyas Iyer (128*) and KL Rahul (102) struck hundreds while Rohit Sharma (61), Shubman Gill (51) and Virat Kohli collected half-century apiece.
India are the third team after Pakistan and Australia to do so.

India are the second time after Australia to have their top-five batters score 50 or more in the same innings of an ODI. This is the first time that the feat has been achieved in an ODI world cup as well.
Fastest World Cup Century by an Indian
Rahul took just 62 deliveries to get to his century which is now the quickest by an Indian in the competition’s history. He surpassed the earlier record of 63-ball hundred set by Rohit Sharma against Afghanistan earlier this year.
Gill Joint-quickest to 1500 ODI runs in a Calendar Year
It took Gill 27 innings to get to 1500 runs in ODIs in 2023 which is joint-quickest alongside Sachin Tendulkar and Matthew Hayden.
Most 50-plus Scores by a Batter in a Single World Cup
Kohli has now scored seven fifty-plus scores in the ongoing competition – the joint-most in a single edition. He’s now level with Sachin Tendulkar (2003) and Shakib Al Hasan (2023) to have done so.
Most 50-plus Scores by India in a World Cup
Indian batters have now struck 20 fifty-plus scores in the 2023 world cup which is the most they have recorded in a single edition of world cup. They overtook the previous tally of 19 set in 2019 world cup.
Fifth Highest Team Total in WC History
India’s total of 410/4 is fifth on the list of highest team total in the competition’s history. India fell just three short of their previous record of 413/5 against Bermuda in 2007.
