The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced that the Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) board has approved 1,247 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for the upcoming January 2024 semester. Those interested in enrolling in these courses can access the official SWAYAM platform at swayam.qov.in. This initiative aims to provide diverse educational opportunities for learners through online courses.
Additionally, UGC has initiated the online registration process for four new MOOCs dedicated to Buddhist culture and tourism for the same semester.
In an official notification, UGC secretary Manish Joshi said, “I would like to inform you that the SWAYAM Board, in its 23rd meeting held on September 25, 2023, under the chairmanship of Secretary (HE), Ministry of Education, D/o Higher Education has approved 47 MOOCs for the January 2024 semester on the SWAYAM Platform.”
The commission also asked the vice-chancellors of universities to share these 1,247 courses with the deans and heads of the departments of the respective universities and institutions. The official notification by UGC also mentioned that they may adopt credit transfer through your concerned statutory bodies as per the University Grants Commission (credit framework for online learning courses through SWAYAM) Regulations, 2021.
The official notification further mentioned that after considering the recommendation of the meeting of committees of Secretaries (Cos), Cabinet Secretariat for the revival of India as a Global Centre of Buddhist Culture and Tourism.
“University Grants Commission has developed 4 MOOCs on ‘Buddhist culture and Tourism’ and offered these 4 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in the January and July 2023 semesters. These four Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) were initially offered in the January and July 2023 semesters, and due to their significant popularity among learners and the academic community both in India and worldwide, these courses are once again open for registration for January 2024 semester on the SWAYAM platform at swavam.gov.in,” Joshi added.
National Testing Agency recently announced Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) January 2024 examination dates for all 1,247 Massive Open Online Courses. The exams are fixed to be conducted on May 18, May 19, May 25, and May 26, 2024. Therefore, candidates are requested to factor in these dates while finalising their university/institution examination calendar, stated the official notification.
The commission further requested the Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to encourage their students and faculty members to enroll in large numbers so that students may avail the benefit of credit transfer from their concerned HEIs.
