Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Rise; Shubman Gill Inches Close to Babar Azam's Number 1 ODI Ranking
Virat Kohli has risen to joint-fifth spot in latest ICC ODI rankings for batsmen, Shubman Gill cuts down Babar Azam's lead the top, Rohit Sharma up to eighth spot.

Indian trio of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have made big moves in the latest ICC ODI rankings. Pakistan captain Babar Azam continues to lead the rankings, but Gill is now just six rating points behind Babar, whereas Kohli and Rohit both rose in the latest rankings released on Wednesday, October 25.

While Kohli is the second-highest run-scorer in the ODI World Cup 2023, Indian captain Rohit is in third place. Virat Kohli had smashed a century against Bangladesh recently and scored 95 runs against New Zealand, agonisingly missing his 49th ODI ton.

His heroics in the World Cup have seen the 34-year-old jump three spots to joint-fifth place in the rankings level with Australian opener David Warner who is up by two places.

Indian skipper Rohit missed back-to-back fifties in two outings against Bangladesh and New Zealand but he has jumped one spot to reach eighth place.

Elsewhere, Pakistan’s talismanic batter Babar slammed 74 runs but his effort was in vain as Afghanistan beat his side by 8 wickets. The 28-year-old managed to keep hold of his number 1 ODI crown, but his 829 rating points are just six shy of Gill’s 823 rating points. The Indian opener missed two World Cup games through dengue, and he has scored 95 runs in three games, including his maiden fifty in the tournament against Bangladesh.

Quinton de Kock has also moved up by three places, having slammed three centuries in the World Cup so far, including his latest effort of 174 on Tuesday. His compatriot Heinrich Klaasen is in fourth place following his stellar century against England.
