Nigerians Attacked: Sushma Swaraj Promises Action, Speaks to UP CM
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj spoke to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister on Tuesday about the alleged attack on Nigerian students in Noida.

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj spoke to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister on Tuesday about the alleged attack on Nigerian students in Noida.

This came after after a foreign student, Sadiq, requested her to intervene, saying living in the area was becoming a ?life threatening? issue.

Swaraj said the central government was taking immediate action and that UP Chief Minister Aditya Nath Yogi had assured her of a fair and impartial investigation into this ?unfortunate? incident. She has also asked for a report.

?I have spoken to Yogi Adityanath ji Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh about attack on African students in Greater Noida. He has assured that there will be a fair and impartial investigation into this unfortunate incident (sic),? she said in a series of tweets.

Responding to a tweet from a student who requested her to ?act fast as living for us in Noida is becoming a life threatening issue?, she said that the central government was seized of the matter. ?We are taking immediate action,? she added.

Zaharaddeen Muhammad, National Academic Coordinator, Association of African students said, ?African students are afraid. It?s bizarre that people stop us and ask if we eat humans. We are no different from Indians, the only difference is of colour. We would urge the Indian government to step in?.

This comes as four Nigerian students on Monday sustained severe injuries after a group of locals attacked them in Pari Chowk, Noida. The incident occurred at 6 PM when a group, comprising hundreds of locals, held a protest demanding all Africans living in Greater Noida region vacate their rented houses immediately.

The protest was triggered by the death of a class 12 student, who reportedly died of drug overdose, and five Nigerian students from the same neighbourhood were detained in connection with the case. The locals also claimed that the boy was seen spending time with these Nigerian students.

Meanwhile state health minister Siddharth Nath singh said, ?It?s a serious issue and serious offence, state government is serious about it. CM has spoken to the authorities, the centre has also asked for a report?.

SSP Noida Dharmendra Yadav said, ?Child went missing since night, police searched him. He returned next morning safely and was taken to hospital for treatment after which the child died?.
