New Delhi: The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has asked the private power distribution companies in Delhi to provide 24 hour uninterrupted power in the state failing and has warned them that their licences will be cancelled if they fail to do so.
This comes after the Discom BSES Yamuna Power Ltd said the residents of East and Central Delhi may face eight to ten hour power cuts in February as it does not have funds to pay to public sector generation units for power supplies. The company had written to the Delhi government asking for an extension of credit and more time to clear its dues.
The AAP has slammed BYPL and said that the move is politically motivated. "How is it that they were not short one month before? If they threaten to cut electricity, their licence will be cancelled," AAP leader Gopal Rai said.
Another AAP leader Sanjay Singh also dared the discoms to cut power supply. He said, "they will have to provide electricity to entire Delhi. We will not let them cut power supply. The government and CM Arvind Kejriwal are serious about this matter."
