AIADMK MLA PH Pandian on Tuesday dropped a bomb shell alleging that the former Tamil Nadu CM was pushed and collapsed after an argument with someone at her Poes Garden residence in Chennai which may have caused her death.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, he said, "Amma (Jayalalithaa) once told me she didn't want Sasikala to become the Chief Minister."
Here is a quick read on who is PH Pandian:
- PH Pandian is a veteran AIADMK leader whose fortnues have fluctuated from time to time.
- He is an MLA, a former MP and former speaker of the assembly.
- Close to MGR, later his widow Janaki. In fact he was one of the two MLAs from her faction to win in 1989.Then he grew closer to Jayalalithaa.
- So much so, he became her legal advisor during the crucial period of 1996-99 when Jaya faced dozens of cases – some of them still going on.
- She made him party’s parliamentary party leader in 1999.
- He was also made the organizing secretary of AIADMK, but abruptly removed by Jaya last year.
- Still, he remains a formidable force in the party.
- He is said not to favour Sasikala, calling her the usurper.
- Today is the first time Pandian has surfaced since the day Jaya died. On that day, he was seen along with another senior party leader, Panruti S Ramachandran, standing at the head of the stairs where Jaya’s body was kept.
- Thereafter, the two leaders were not available, either to the party cadres or the press.
