Amid Repeated Charge of AAP Leaders' Worsening Health in Jail, Tihar's New Data: 'Gained 6 Kilos in 6 Months'
From October 2023 to April 2024, Sanjay Singh's body weight increased from 76 kg to 82 kg and his blood pressure went down from 153/103 to 136/70 mm Hg, his reports show

After Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claimed that jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lost over 4 kgs in prison, the Tihar jail refuted the claim and shared Sanjay Singh’s medical report which showed improvement in his health while he was in jail.

According to his medical reports, AAP MP Sanjay Singh, who recently got bail in connection with the Delhi Liquor Policy case after being in jail for six months, showed signs of improvement in health during his time in Tihar.

From October 2023 to April 2024, Singh’s body weight increased from 76 kg to 82 kg and his blood pressure went down from 153/103 to 136/70 mm Hg, his reports show.

Earlier in March, a Delhi court directed the authorities concerned to provide a healthy and nutritious diet and bottled drinking water to Singh after the MP alleged he was not provided basic amenities like clean drinking water, proper diet and hygienic living conditions at places of his stay during production before courts outside Delhi.

This comes after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including Kejriwal’s wife Sunita, claimed that the Delhi Chief Minister’s weight has decreased rapidly, and has lost 4.5 kg since his arrest on March 21 in the Delhi liquor policy case.

In a post on X, Atishi said the BJP was putting Kejriwal’s health at risk. “Arvind Kejriwal is a severe diabetic. Despite his health problems, he used to work 24 hours a day to serve the country. Since his arrest, Arvind Kejriwal has lost 4.5 kg of weight,” Atishi wrote on X.

In response, the Tihar administration refused the AAP’s claim and said that the AAP supremo’s weight is constant at 65 kg from the day he was brought to the prison.

“On arrival on 01.04.2024, Arvind Kejriwal was examined by two Doctors and all vitals were normal. Also, his weight has been constant at 65 Kg, since he arrived in jail and to date. Home-cooked food is being provided as per the Court order. His vital statistics are normal,” said Tihar jail management in its statement on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the BJP on Friday accused AAP MP Sanjay Singh of violating his bail condition that he would not speak about the Delhi excise scam case in which he was arrested and asserted that his action would have serious consequences.

BJP national spokesperson and senior advocate Gaurav Bhatia told a press conference that Singh’s lawyer had given an undertaking in the Supreme Court that he would not speak about the case but he has been referring to the matter in his interaction with the media and has been claiming that no scam has happened.

Arvind Kejriwal’s Arrest

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. The case pertains to the alleged corruption and money laundering in formulating and executing the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22 which was later scrapped. Kejriwal has challenged his arrest in court.

Meanwhile, the ED told the Delhi High Court that Kejriwal was the “kingpin” and the “key conspirator” of the “excise scam” and there were “reasons to believe” based on material in its possession that he was guilty of the offence of money laundering.

Opposing the AAP leader’s petition challenging his arrest by the agency in the money laundering case linked to the “scam”, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said the political party, which was the “major beneficiary” of the proceeds of the crime, has committed the offence through Kejriwal.
