Anti-Sikh riots: Victim's fast against Sajjan enters 5th day
The Aam Aadmi Party, eyeing the Delhi Assembly polls, is supporting Nirpreet Kaur.

New Delhi: 1984 anti-Sikh riots victim Nirpreet Kaur's fast at Jantar Mantar against the acquittal of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in a riots case entered the fifth day on Tuesday. Her blood pressure is down and her health has deteriorated, but Kaur has decided to carry on with her fast.

Nirpreet said that her fast will be continue until the government fulfills her demand for a through investigation in the riots cases and action against Sajjan Kumar. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is eyeing the next Assembly elections in Delhi, is supporting Kaur.

The matter also echoed in Parliament with the Akali Dal alleging that the party had sent a letter to Prime Minister on the issue but had not received any reply. Akali Dal and BJP leaders will meet president pranab Mukherjee on May 8 and raise the issue of Sajjan Kumar's acquittal.

Earlier on Monday several 1984 anti-Sikh riots victims protested against the acquittal of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in Delhi. Hundreds of victims, their relatives and friends squatted at Vijay Chowk and shouted slogans against Sajjan Kumar, who was given the benefit of doubt in a 1984-anti-Sikh riots case by the Karkardooma court.

Following the protests Vijay Chowk, Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde sought a report from Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar and asked him to explain how such a large number of people managed to assemble at Vijay Chowk even though Section 144 was in force in the area.

On Monday, several people from the Sikh community reached Vijay Chowk near Parliament. They shouted slogans against Sajjan Kumar and even surrounded JDU chief Sharad Yadav.

The protesters alleged that Congress leader Sajjan Kumar was being protected by those in power. They were demanding a SIT probe into the 1984 anti-sikh riots along with filing of the chargesheet in the Nangloi case related to the riots.
