Bangalore: Special teams of Tamil Nadu Police are looking for a suspect near Chennai in the Bangalore blast that injured 16 people on Wednesday. Investigators are reportedly tracking the man who bought the motorcycle in which the bomb was kept.
The accused is said to have fled to Kancheepuram and is believed to be a resident of Vellore. Initial reports from the forensic sciences laboratory (FSL) indicated that amonium nitrate was used to make the bomb. Also some sharp nails were found at the blast site, indicating the bomb may have been packed with shrapnel to maximise damage.
The bomb was placed on a two-wheeler and the police have identified the owner. Newspaper reports also said that investigators are trying to prepare sketches of the culprits based on eyewitness reports.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said that there was no intelligence failure and promised compensation for the injured.
A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team as well as a team from the National Security Guard (NSG) visited the blast site on Thursday. After the explosion outside the Bharatiya Janata Party's office in Bangalore, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had issued a countrywide alert, asking all states to be extra vigilant. Meanwhile, the Karnataka government registered a case under Explosive Substance Act, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and various IPC provisions (attempt to murder). It also submitted its preliminary report on the bomb blast to the MHA.
