The petition seeks Karunanidhi's prosecution for his uncharitable remarks.

New Delhi: The controversy over Ram Sethu and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s uncharitable remarks over Lord Ram is threatening to assume dangerous proportions.

A case has now been filed in a city court in Bangalore against the DMK patriarch for his remarks. The petition, filed by three Bangaloreans Vimalanathan, Rajashekar and Cheran, asks for prosecution of Karunanidhi for hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindus.

The first hearing of the case was on Monday Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Raghunath, after hearing the counsel for the petitioner, on Monday adjounred the hearing to October 11.

On Monday, normal life was thrown out of gear in Chennai as Karunanidhi began a day-long fast demanding speedy implementation of the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project.

But the defiant DMK supremo fell in line with SC and broke his planned fast halfway after the court observed on Monday morning that it would ask the Centre to impose President's Rule in the state if there was no compliance of its order which would be a Constitutional breakdown.

The Congress meanwhile rushed to Karunandhi's rescue saying the CM was not violating the court’s order and was staging a Gandhian protest.
