A day after the Lok Sabha election 2024 results, hectic parleys between top functionaries of the Rashtryia Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were initiated as the RSS, the ideological backbone of the BJP, has convened meetings to analyse the state-wise performance and to identify the reasons and factors behind such downslide in states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and West Bengal.
The organisation will also analyse the issues which might have gone wrong during the campaign and affected the electoral fortune of the BJP, said sources in RSS ranks.
Talking to News18, a senior RSS functionary said, “We are discussing issues with our Pracharaks and Swayamsevaks. We also have a mechanism of talking to the BJP leaders, who are in charge of organisation. For us, the foremost issue of concern is national interest. We have to deliberate on some factors which may have worked against national interest or if there is any force trying to adversely affect nation building.”
Ram Mandir Issue Faded
About Ram Mandir not impacting the election process in UP, as expected, the functionary said, “People vote for unfinished works. The voters do not consider the works, which were already done. In some areas, we reached a saturation point as well. There are several factors and narratives which need to be re-considered and re-deliberated,” he added.
Another senior functionary said, “We have to particularly focus on the states where our vote share and number of seats dropped. Uttar Pradesh has to be our focal point. The loss is maximum in Uttar Pradesh. We have called for Prant Pracharak’ (functionaries in charge of specific states and areas) from all such states.”
Caste Matrix
According to senior sources in the RSS, some ‘false and divisive’ narrative floated by the Opposition could not be countered well.
“We saw that the caste issues did not reflect in the last assembly elections in four states. But, does caste issue impact the general elections? The divisive agenda worked in some areas. People believed that reservation can be affected, a section of voters also went by the caste formula, as designed by the Opposition,” said another senior functionary.
“They are just trying to break the unity of our people. We have to analyse booth by booth, assembly by assembly to see what went wrong and where,” he added.
Apart from the three states mentioned, BJP’s vote share also dropped in Bihar, however, the NDA alliance managed to win adequate seats. Even in Uttar Pradesh, people voted in the caste line, which was disappointing, he further added.
