Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley ripped through the Prime Minister's statement.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party and Left on Friday expressed dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's statement on economy on and even walked out of the Lok Sabha after the statement. "The Leader of the Opposition stood to say something but the PM just left the House. He has insulted the Opposition and the House. So the Leader of the Opposition said that we are hurt by the PM's behaviour and so we walk out of the House," BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said.

"It is the most disappointing and frustrating statement that the PM has chosen to give," Sinha added.

Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley ripped through the Prime Minister's statement. "Political consensus is not built up but fractured by the government itself. The government can't be a democrat only in distress. You can't expect a consensus in isolation," Jaitley said.

"Has PM realised the whole world was warning us, there is a spate of policy paralysis going on in India. We blame global economy. Why did we lose the trust of domestic investors? There is a reverse flow of investment," Jaitley added.

He also hit out at the government over corruption cases. "We as a nation have lost the image of a destination where people want to invest. We built an image of a corrupt country. We had the spectrum case, prosecution and then licences being terminated. This had a spiral effect. Oil is an essential reserve but what happened to coal," asked Jaitley.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday expressed concerns over the falling rupee and blamed external forces for the slowdown in the Indian economy. The Prime Minister claimed that it was not only the Indian economy that is going through a turbulent phase but also other developing countries which had seen their economies facing tough times.

"What triggered the sharp depreciation in the rupee value are certain external forces. Global factors like tension in Syria and prospects of US tapering its federal policy also had an impact," Manmohan Singh said while making a statement on the economy in Parliament.

Manmohan Singh, however, said that the government won't go back on reforms in the current economic situation. "There is no question of reversing economic reforms. The cabinet decisions to give go-ahead to projects will show results in the second quarter," he said.

Singh urged the Opposition to help in passing of certain bills for economic growth. "Many bills are stalled due to lack of political consensus. I urge political parties to come together and get them through for the economic growth," Singh said.
