Mumbai: The suspense over the chief minister of Maharashtra will finally be over on Tuesday and the Bharatiya Janata Party will elect its legislature party leader, who will then stake claim to form the government in the state.
BJP central observers Rajnath Singh and JP Nadda will be in Mumbai to meet the party's 123 legislators. With more than one chief ministerial claimant in the fray, the MLAs meeting could get heated.
While Maharashtra BJP chief Devendra Fadnavis remains the frontrunner, senior leaders Eknath Khadse, Pankaja Munde and Nitin Gadkari loyalists had pitched themselves for the post.
Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena has said that it will support a BJP led government in the state. Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that talks are on with the BJP over power sharing.
Earlier, an editorial in Saamna had said that Sena will back any CM that the BJP chooses. Back channel discussions are said to be underway with Shiv Sena on a possible tie-up in government formation.
