Ranchi: Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Raghuvar Das will be sworn in as the first non-tribal chief minister of Jharkhand. The ceremony is expected to be attend by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under whose leadership the party fought the Assembly elections in the state. The ceremony is likely to be around 11 AM.
Governor Syed Ahmed agreed to Das' wish to conduct the oath-taking function at the Birsa Munda Football Stadium on Sunday, Raj Bhavan sources said.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the swearing-in ceremony at Birsa Munda Football Stadium tomorrow," Jharkhand Home Secretary NN Pandey said. After being elected as BJP's legislature party leader, Das staked claim to form the tenth government on Saturday at the head of BJP/AJSU alliance.
Das would be the sixth individual after Babulal Marandi (once), Arjun Munda (thrice), Shibu Soren (thrice), Madhu Koda (once) and Hemant Soren (once) to be the chief minister of Jharkhand.
During his election rallies, Modi had repeatedly appealed to the people to vote for a clear majority and prevent political instability in Jharkhand which had seen nine governments in its 14-year history.
The BJP and All Jharkhand Students Union party together won 42 of the total of 81 seats.
Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled Chhatisgarh and Uttarakhand---Raman Singh and and Shivraj Singh Chauhan---are among several dignitaries invited to the oath-taking ceremony.
