New Delhi: Congress has defended Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) clean chit to Jagdish Tytler in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case saying that it was not a Union Government decision.
"It's natural that the Sikhs are upset and hurt. 1984 riots were a great tragedy. Their wounds are still hurting but as far as the CBI decision goes... it is not a Union Government decision," said Defence Minister AK Antony on Friday in Thiruvanthapauram.
Meanwhile, there have been protests by Sikh religious organisation Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) against the CBI clean chit to Tytler.
In Delhi, police detained five SGPC activists on Friday after they threatened to immolate themselves outside the Prime Minister Manmoahn Singh's house.
They were taken into custody as soon as they came out of the Gurudwara Bangla ahib to proceed towards the PM's residence.
The have been protests Amritsar, too, where former cricketer and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Navjot Singh Sidhu led a Sikh rally.
