Lucknow: With the date of hearing on Samajwadi Party nominee Sanjay Dutt's plea seeking permission to contest the coming Lok Sabha polls from Lucknow drawing closer, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) has started shortlisting its candidates for the seat in case the actor fails to get a nod from the Supreme Court.
Some of the names being discussed for the seat include that of film personality Nafisa Ali, sources in the UPCC said.
Other names doing the rounds are those of senior counsel Ashok Nigam, UPCC spokesman Subodh Srivastava and party leader Luv Bhargava who are all local but influential leaders, they said.
A section of the party is of the opinion that it is better to put up a celebrity as a candidate from the seat so as to make a mark in the short period of time available for campaigning, sources said.
However, even if the name is finalised it would be made public only after March 30 when a decision on Sanjay Dutt is expected.
The party has already said that it would not contest against Sanjay and would wait for a decision on him, sources added.
