Congress would ally with smaller parties for next year's Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Muzaffarnagar: Congress would ally with smaller parties for next year's Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, state party chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi has said, ruling out any pre-poll tie up with the BSP, BJP and SP.

"Congress would ally with smaller parties in the state for next year's polls who support its policy," Joshi told reporters here last night.

She said the BSP-led state government had proved to be a "failure on all fronts" and people, especially women, remain insecure in the state.

Referring to the recent murder of the teenaged girl in Lakhimpur, Joshi said it was "another example of how law and order has collapsed in the state".

The Congress leader said the party would announce its new policy for the upcoming polls in the 'Bhattaparsoli Kisan Maha Panchayat', to be held later this month.

"The party will also finalise the candidates who would contest for next year's Assembly elections by this month end," she added.
