Indore: Accusing Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta Justice PP Naolekar of indulging in corruption, opposition Congress on Saturday demanded his resignation on moral grounds.
"Lokayukta's appointment is disputed and was done illegally by the MP government," Congress spokesperson KK Mishra alleged in a statement.
Referring to a letter that he had written to the Lokayukta, Mishra said he had mentioned about Naolekar's role and decision in the dumper scam and a few appointments.
He also pointed to an instance where the Lokayukta's son Sandeep recently visited China as part of the official mission led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The Congress leader also alleged that the Lokayukta's appointment was made in a "haste" by the BJP government.
"Immediately after completion of the then Lokayukta Ripusudan Dayal's term on June 22, 2009, how come the MP government appointed Justice Naolekar within two days without adhering to the transparent system of appointment?" Mishra asked.
Meanwhile, BJP has dismissed the allegations levelled by Congress as baseless with intention to malign the image of the state government.
"The misinformation campaign launched by Congress in this regard is not in interest of democratic principles," BJP media in-charge Hitesh Vajpayee said.
