Congress Leaders Want MPs Exempt From Delhi Govt's Odd-Even Scheme
Under the Odd-Even scheme launched by the Delhi government, only odd numbered private vehicles can ply on the road on odd dates and even numbered vehicles on even dates.

Many MPs are not happy with Delhi government's Odd-Even scheme. While five Bharatiya Janata Party MPs violated the scheme on the first day of the second phase of Budget session on April 25, lawmakers from other parties are also apprehensive about the plan.

Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad is in favour of exempting MPs from the scheme.

"My suggestion is to exempt MPs from following the Odd and Even in the current session. Most MPs have just one vehicle. You can't enter Parliament in a vehicle without security tags. How will they come?" asked Azad.

Another Congress Rajya Sabha MP Anand Sharma, too, echoed the same sentiments. "I have said everything in the Rajya Sabha. Except 10 MPs - 7 from Lok Sabha and 3 from Rajya Sabha, rest are from outside Delhi. They have only one vehicle. Unauthorized vehicles can't enter Parliament. All have got just one security pass," he said.

Sharma claimed that several meetings have been postponed or cancelled in the past because MPs could not make it the proposed venue.

"Delhi Police is with the Centre. It should issue instructions to them not to stop MPs' vehicles. MPs can be exempted from Odd and Even during Parliament session period. MPs are facing a huge problem. They use their own vehicles and not government ones," added Sharma.

Under the Odd-Even scheme launched by the Delhi government of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal only odd numbered private vehicles can ply on the road on odd dates and even numbered vehicles on even dates.
