New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) is set to complete the process of delimitation of all its Assembly constituencies next week.
This means the EC could hold Assembly elections in Karnataka in May.
Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer, R Ramaseshan said, "By Sunday, we will complete the new rolls for all constituencies except Bangalore. The old roll for Bangalore is not ready yet so we can't touch it till March 20. We will take up the Bangalore rolls on March 20 and complete it by March 22. I would say by March 22, delimitation process would be completed."
With this, the electoral authorities have met the deadline of April first week, set by the Chief Election Commissioner, N Gopalaswami, to complete delimitation of constituencies, drawing of new constituency maps and preparation of revised electoral rolls.
Karnataka has been under President's Rule since November 20 and elections are to be held by May 28, before the expiry of the Central rule.
The Commission has already indicated that elections might be held in the state by May.
