Every River Should Be Cared For Like The Yamuna: Environment Minister

New Delhi: Amidst the long drawn controversy over damages to Yamuna floodplains by the Art of Living, Environment Minister Anil Dave has said "one should not pick and make an issue" as each and every river should be cared for like the Yamuna in Delhi.

Dave was speaking to CNN News18 about the recent report of a panel which held the Art of Living headed by spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar responsible for damaging Yamuna floodplains near Delhi while preparing the stage for the World Cultural Center in March this year.

"The matter is sub-judice so I will not comment on the report" he said. But added that "you are picking up a specific case and making an issue out of it, what about other parts of the country"; Dave said in an interview.

"Whatever law applies to one person should apply to all. That is good governance. Each and every river should be cared for like this"; he added.

The NGT appointed committee in its report submitted last earlier this month had recommended AOL be slapped a fine of 20 cr rupees for causing irreparable loss to the bio-diversity on the Yamuna flood-plains.

The Art of Living has challenged these findings of the committee as it plans to contest these claims in the courts.
