'Goddess' Raje sparks feud within BJP
Posters are released depicting Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje and other senior leaders as gods and goddesses.

New Delhi: In Rajasthan, factionalism within the ruling BJP is out in the open once again.

Former union minister Jaswant Singh's wife, Sheetal Kanwar, has lodged a police complaint against a BJP MLA and the publisher of posters for depicting Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and other senior leaders as gods and goddesses.

Apart from the BJP MLA, who allegedly released the calendar, a priest is also named in FIR.

In her complaint, Kanwar claims the posters are an insult to Hinduism.

BJP MLA from Jodhpur, Suryakanta Vyas, had released the posters at a function last month in which Raje is depicted as Goddess Annapurna and her cabinet colleagues as courtiers.

BJP leaders L K Advani, Rajnath Singh and Atal Bihari Vajpayee are portrayed as Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva respectively.

BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi reacted to the controversy over the Vasundhra Raje poster saying there was no space in the party for individual worship.

“First of all, we are against idol worship, the party also discourage the spread of idol worship,” said Naqvi.
