Govt warns of terror strikes during elections
Govt says 25 chief ministers and leaders are high on the hit-list.

New Delhi: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has sent out a letter to 25 VVIPs warning that they could be the target of terrorists during Lok Sabha elections.

Chidambaram wrote the letter on Friday to chief ministers and leaders of different political parties.

The list of 25 includes many chief ministers and leaders with Z+ security.

The warning comes just a day after a bomb exploded at a venue in Guwahati where External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee was scheduled to address an election rally.

One person was killed and at least nine others injured at Jyotikuchi in Guwahati on Tuesday evening.

Mukherjee had also expressed his fears about terrorists targeting leaders and election rallies.

"If there is a fear that at the time of elections terrorists will try to cause mischief... yes, that's our fear. At the same time, I can assure you that government will take utmost care in facing challenges from the threat of terrorism," said Mukherjee.
