AIADMK chief says High Court asking Election Commission to act against her is bad in law.

Chennai: AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa will challenge a court order asking the Election Commission to take action against her in six weeks for filing “false” declarations in the 2001 state elections.

"The High Court direction is bad in law. We are seeking legal opinion and we will be challenging it in the Supreme Court," she said.

The court, while hearing a plea filed by DMK MP S Kuppusamy, on Wednesday ruled that prima facie there enough evidence to take action against Jayalalitha. The AIADMK chief allegedly hid information regarding her properties in Kodanadu in the Nilgiri hills.

On the Kodanadu estate controversy, Jayalalithaa said the claims made by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, Ministers Stalin and Arcot N Veerasamy and also by a certain section of the media that about 2000 trees were felled to build a 90-room palace in the estate were all "lies."

"I'll arrange a tour for them to take a look around the estate. Will they be prepared to quit politics if their claims that the palace had 90 rooms and an underground swimming pool with hot water facility were proved wrong? Will the newspapers which put out such news close down their offices,?" she said.

The AIADMK would also face legally the demolition notice served on the party headquarters by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority.
