Bangalore: The Lokayukta court on Friday cancelled the bail of BJP MLA Y Sampangi, facing corruption charges and remanded him to judicial custody till Saturday when the two witnesses in the case will be examined.
Lokayukta court judge N K Sudhindra Rao cacelled the bail of Sampangi, after the court found him guilty of threatening a witness.
The court further remanded him to judicial custody till Saturday when the examination of the two witnesses in the case is completed. The two witnesses in the case are Farooq, who Sampamgi was found to have threatened, and Arun Kumar.
Sampangi was caught by the Lokayukta police in January 2009 at the legislator s home while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from Hussain M Farooq, a businessman.
The legislator, who represents Kolar Gold Fields in the Karnataka assembly, was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and charges were framed against him earlier this year.
Farooq had earlier approached the High Court seeking cancellation of bail to Sampangi.
The Lokayukta police failed twice to get Sampangi s bail cancelled. A special House Committee, which looked into the corruption charges against the BJP MLA, had recommended to the State Assembly to close the issue in March last year.
The committee had suggested that complainant Farooq be reprimanded for tarnishing the legislator s image by making 'false allegations' against him.
