'Law will be followed in setting up Thackeray's memorial'
The Maharashtra Chief Minister maintained at he has not received any proposal for a memorial for Bal Thackeray.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Friday said that the state government would not do anything in violation of the law with regard to Shiv Sena's demand to set up a memorial of the late Balasaheb Thackeray at Shivaji Park. Thackeray was cremated at Shivaji Park last Sunday, the same ground where he had addressed his followers during Dassera rallies for over 40 years and Shiv Sena is keen to have Thackeray's memorial there.

However, the demand has led to controversy amid opposition from a section of the locals. Incidentally, the matter with regard to Shivaji Park, which has been declared as a silence zone, is pending in the high court.

While government is of the view that it is a recreation ground, the court says it is a playground in which case no construction will be possible there, he said. "Nothing will be done which will violate the law," Chavan told a television news channel, adding he has not received any proposal for a memorial for the late leader so far.
