Modi regime is a copycat government with no original scheme: Digvijaya Singh at Modi Sarkar Year One Dialogue

New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh hit back at the Narendra Modi government calling it a regime with no achievements. Addressing the Modi Sarkar Year One Dialogue organised by the Network18 to discuss the one year of Narendra Modi government, Digvijaya Singh said, “In all the achievements Modi has been listing, there is not a single one which can be credited to him."

Taking a dig at Modi, Digvijaya Singh said, “If this country has a marketing guru today, it is Narendra Modi who is marketing without a product". He said that the Congress needs to take loan from the World Bank to do the kind of marketing Modi has been doing.

Claiming that BJP had opposed Value Added Tax (VAT), Goods and Services Tax (GST), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Aadhar etc, he said, “BJP opposed all these when in opposition. Now they want to implement the same. Where is Swadeshi Manch, the one which opposed FDI? It is sad that there seems to be a change of heart. This government is taking all the credit of the UPA schemes that they were objecting when they were in opposition."

He also said that the BJP has no moral right to talk about Digital India as the BJP had opposed Rajiv Gandhi’s policies for large scale computerisation of India in the 1980s and called it hypocrisy.

He alleged that the Modi government has reduced spending in the social sector and claimed that Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi is not happy with the budget provided to her ministry.

He ridiculed Modi’s foreign trips and the reception he gets from NRIs. He said, “Where does the captive audience come in from to all the foreign visits of PM Modi that chants Modi, Modi in all his foreign trips? Is it exported from Gujarat?"

He said that the Modi should not talk about transparency and clean governance as he is not appointing the CVC and the CIC. He said, “Modi has not appointed the Lokayukta for 11 year in Gujarat. Same thing is happening here at the Centre. No CVC is appointed, Lok Pal appointment process is yet to begin. Many queries pending under the RTI, where should the people go and complain?"

The session witnessed a heated exchange of words over the Vyapam scam of Madhya Pradesh between Digvijaya Singh and the BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav. Ram Madhav said that the High Court called Digvijaya Singh a liar.

Digvijaya Singh retorted that the BJP should be ashamed of its government in MP.
