New Delhi: A month after replacing Dinesh Trivedi as Railway Minister, Mukul Roy on Thursday told Parliament that he would take forward 'Vision 2020' outlined by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee to take the railways to high growth and broaden the agenda of inclusive growth.
"I salute the core objective underlined in her vision to take Indian Railways on a new path of high growth. I am committed to take forward this agenda," Roy said replying to a debate on demands for grants in the Lok Sabha.
"Mamata Banerjee gave Indian Railways a much needed road map in the form of 'Vision 2020' document. She envisaged that the Indian Railway will cater to the needs of the people across the country and income strata," he said.
He said efforts will be made to mop up resources through non-tariff measures to fill the gap created as a result of steps announced earlier to provide the much needed relief to passengers travelling in second class, AC-3 and AC chair car.
Trivedi was removed as he proposed fare hike across the board while presenting the 2012-13 Rail Budget on March 14.
