Jamui, Bihar: Soon after voting started in the fourth phase of the Assembly elections in Bihar, Naxals have fired at a polling party at Batia forest area in Jamui. BSF jawans returned the fire. No injuries have been reported. The voting has resumed.
Meanwhile, on Sunday in a major crackdown against the Maoists, the Bihar police, nabbed six hard core Maoists ultras including Deep Singh, the area commander of the Revolutionary Core Committee (RCC) of the ultras, from Gaya district of India's eastern Bihar state.
The police team headed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Amit Lodha obtained information that the area commander Deep Singh was hiding in the nearby Khekara village of Gaya district and arrested him.
After his arrest the police cordoned off another area in the district and launched an operation and arrested five other Maoists ultras acting on the information provided by Deep Singh.
Confirming the arrests, SSP Lodha said that the police in connection with nearly one dozen cases of extortion and arson wanted Deep Singh.
"The area commander of Revolutionary Core Committee (RCC, a Maoist outfit) Deep Singh alias Vikramji alias Maulwi was arrested. Acting on his information the police also arrested five more ultras named Barua Panda, Neeraj, Randhir Kumar, Krishna Paswan and Munna Mehto. One pistol, a rifle and an organisational book belonging to them were recovered. After their arrest the RCC is almost finished from Gaya district," added Lodha.
The Maoists have spread into rural pockets of 20 of India's 28 states.
Initially, the Maoists contended that they are fighting for the cause of poor and weaker sections of the society including landless labourers whereas over the past two decades, their movement turned extremely violent.
