New Delhi: A meeting of the DGPs and chief secretaries of the states opposed to the anti-terror agency, the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), was on Saturday postponed to March 12. The DGPs were unavailable due to the extended holiday owing to the festival of Holi and government formation in five states post election.
With several states opposed to the formation of the anti-terror body, the Home Ministry had written to the states' DGPs and chief secretaries for a meeting on March 9.
Several states, including Gujarat, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Bihar, were opposed to certain features of the NCTC as the Home Ministry has currently envisaged it.
They claimed the agency violated India's federal structure. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee even held talks with PM Manmohan Singh on the raging issue.
