New Delhi: The Opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Wednesday announced that it would boycott Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee's meetings with political parties to protest what it termed as his "double standards" towards the Opposition.
"The NDA leaders will not attend the meetings called by the Lok Sabha Speaker including the Business Advisory Committee meetings," said Vijay Kumar Malhotra, the BJP deputy leader in the Lok Sabha.
"There are double standards with which the House is being run. There is a disregard of the opposition," he alleged.
During an official function on Monday evening, Leader of Opposition L K Advani had also complained to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about Chatterjee's "inappropriate" behaviour.
Malhotra said the party was upset over Chatterjee's refusal to adjourn the House on Monday when the BJP members raised the issue of the arrest of their party chief Rajnath Singh in Singur, where he had gone to express solidarity with the Trinamool Congress that was protesting the handing over of a fertile farmland to a car project.
Although the BJP tried to stall the proceedings during the Zero Hour on Monday over their party chief's arrest, Chatterjee continued the business amid hooting and slogan - shouting by the BJP MPs.
