Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the first time on Monday reacted to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal receiving endorsements from Pakistan and said it is a matter that requires “thorough investigation”.
“I don’t understand why some select group of people, apparently those who harbour animosity against us, get endorsements from Pakistan… why voices of support emanate from there, for certain individuals. This is a grave matter and calls for an investigation. I think I shouldn’t comment on such issues, given the position I hold, but I do understand your concern,” the prime minister said in an interview with IANS.
PM Modi was referring to former Pakistani Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain’s “appreciation post” for Rahul Gandhi which caused a stir earlier this month. Fawad Hussain hit the headlines once again last week over his reaction to Arvind Kejriwal’s bail in the liquor scam case.
“Modi G Lost another battle Kejriwal released… good news for moderate India,” Hussain said in a post on X.
Emphasising that it is a matter of concern, PM Modi said the Indian voter is “mature” and “statements from across the border will not affect elections in India”.
“This is Bharat’s election. India is a mature democracy, which boasts of rich and well-established electoral principles and traditions. India’s voters, too are mature in their thoughts and can’t be influenced by any external factor,” he said.
PM Modi further took a dig at Arvind Kejriwal over his arrest in the Delhi excise policy scam case and said, “Now that big fishes are being caught, we are being asked why we are catching them. What kind of Khan Market Gang is this, which is creating a narrative to protect certain people?”
