Chennai: The AIADMK General Meeting has passed a resolution that a leader from Tamil Nadu should lead the country this time. Even though the resolution does not name Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa as its prime ministerial candidates, it is obvious that the party is proposing her name for the top post in the country.
The party resolution says, "There have been PM candidates from Gujarat, Punjab etc; this is time for someone from Tamil Nadu to lead the country."
The General Meeting has also authorised Jayalalithaa to take the final decision on an alliance at the Centre. AIADMK has asked its cadre to decimate the DMK by winning all 39 Lok Sabha seats in the state in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
It once again opposed the CHOGM held in Colombo, Tamil fishermen caught by the Sri Lankan Navy and allowing its Navy to train in India.
The meeting also paid condolences to Nelson Mandela and late Yercaud MLA Perumal. Jayalalithaa presided over the meeting.
