Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has declared that his government would be returning the aid received for flood relief from the Gujarat government.
The announcement by Nitish Kumar comes in the backdrop of an advertisement published by the BJP in which it claimed that Narendra Modi's government had helped Bihar during the Kosi flood tragedy.
"Boasting about aid given during the time of crisis is against Indian culture. We will return the aid," said a visibly upset Kumar.
"Bihar is not weak. People of Bihar are capable of looking after themselves. It (aid) is peanuts," he added.
The unease of felt by Nitish Kumar is quite obvious considering the crucial support that his party needs from the Muslim electorate in the state. This move is seen by many as an effort by the Bihar Chief Minister to retain that support.
Earlier, Kumar had shied away from sharing a dais with the Gujarat Chief Minister.
For the BJP however, the Nitish-Modi spat is not the only cause for concern.
The party, which is holding its national executive meet in Patna was seen struggling to get its leaders to attend the event after leaders like actor Shatrughan Sinha and actress Hema Malini boycotted the meet citing differences.
Besides that, the entire BJP unit from Rajasthan is also absent as a fallout of the Rajya Sabha ticket allotment controversy.
